Grocery Shopping Challenge: Round 3!

4:30 PM

Oh ma word! I get so distracted so easily. I keep saying I'm going to blog then I get on my computer and that facebook tab just stares at me. Just one look. Just one. Couldn't hurt right? 2 hours later I am on another mission and way off track! I really gotta stop that!
I have a writing itch, but am not prepared yet to finish the NYC trip series so I'm just throwing in a just because post to keep things warm.

Today has been productive just like every day. I was thinking how crazy fast the day goes, but in retrospect it feels like you've done nothing even though you've done tons of things! Can anyone relate?? This morning I took Jason to work and then went grocery shopping! It was a filler week so not a huge grocery shop, but somehow I ended up coming home with more than was on my list. This is the third time I have gone out shopping and the first time I have gone completely on my own. I got lost in downtown again, BUT this time I didn't freak out and made it out with the hubby's good ole' phone directions. I really am considering getting a GPS, but the brave little Bekah inside of me wants to rough it no matter how many times I get lost!
Turns out I was exactly where I needed to be the first time and thought I was getting lost so I turned around. I discovered I was so close. My destination was just around the corner. Progress right? :D

I tried out a new store today with a rewards card and coupons. Honestly, the prices were comparable to everywhere else expensive, but I did snag a few good deals. I hit Aldi's last which was a mistake. Found half the things I bought for so much cheaper there. You live and learn. Looks like Aldi's is going to be my best friend store. :)
When I was out shopping, I noticed a plethora of elderly. The Grandmas and Grandpas must shop early before 10am. One of the Grandpas hit on me too in the bread aisle. That was ummmm different.
Thankfully I had a better experience with a little Mennonite Grandma in the frozen chicken aisle who started talking to me about her desire to make chicken corn soup tonight. I told her that I have never heard of that and was asking on how to make it. She got lost in the conversation or didn't understand what I was saying cause she kept talking about the corn soup over and over again without giving me insight on this secret recipe, she wouldn't let out. Best thing ever.

At Aldi's more cute little elderly ladies were shopping around me. I went to checkout, but wanted to grab some ice cream sandwiches as a surprise for my man cause he isn't feeling too well. I put my cart aside. When I came back to finish checking out, three of these ladies came up with a few items. I let them go through first and the reaction was so unexpected! They kept thanking me and saying how kind that was and the cashier was like, "If only more people would be considerate like that, this world would be a happier place." That may not be entirely true because true joy and contentment can only come from Christ, but it's nice to do something kind for people cause they do notice! That and a smile! The lady behind me offered to help another lady in a wheelchair behind her with her groceries cause she was having trouble getting them on the belt. What an awesome example of paying it forward! On the way out I ran into an Amish family who were trying their darndest to figure out the trapped cart situation so I gave them my cart and carried my two boxes of groceries to the car. I am thankful that I had parked pretty close cause those babies were much heavier than I realized! Got my workout in for the day! This time I did not get lost going home. Yay!

I gotta run, but I will post one of our dinners that this grocery shopping produces. If you want the recipe I can give it to you! I am perfecting how to cook for two without leftovers. Most recipes are made for 4, but we are different. We cook for two every night. So this would be great if you're a newlywed or it's just you and him or you and her for awhile! :)

Skillet cooked pork chops and homemade fried rice. (I said stirfry earlier. So not true! Wrote that in a hurry and wasn't thinking. Silly me.). Ignore the unhealthy birch beer. :P
