Extending the Birthday to L.A.

10:49 PM

A weekend in September as an extended birthday trip, we finally managed to make a visit to L.A. My social and travel anxiety was running high knowing I'd be surrounded by a ton of strangers, but I decided to not cancel this trip as I've done in the past and at least try to face my fears. I had some complications and symptoms show up from my anxiety, but pushed through best I could.

We stayed with some friends of ours who were gracious enough to open their home to us and share some meals!
Saturday we toured abit of the famous star studded sidewalk which I believe they call the Hollywood Boardwalk? I captured some pictures but there were so many people there and it was so sunny causing shadow casting, that it proved challenging to really get a good look at the ground and find all the stars I would have liked to find. I did catch a few though.

Los Angeles

Top left to right: Billy Graham, Amy Grant, William Shatner (trekky! Yeah!), Godzilla (Jason got a kick out of that :P), Olivia Newton John (Remember Grease??), Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen (Them twins), Tom Hanks, Julie Andrews (The hills are alive with the sound of...), Dean Martin (Classy guy with a great tv show back in the day)

I got so excited when I found Donald Trump's star. Had to pose with it of course. :)
This was quite impressive:
Jimmy Stewart (It's a Wonderful life anyone?) on top and Arnold Schwarzanoogit ("I'll be Back!") on bottom!
I caught Mickey and Minnie in an entrepreneurship moment:
We got an aerial view of sections of some of the busiest or more well known areas from the outdoor mall's bridge. It was pretty windy up there and crowded with many tourists seeking the same views.
I wish we would have had a chance to explore some more places and streets, but maybe it wasn't as impressive as I've been told or maybe I just wasn't sure what to look for. It was our first time after all.
We stopped by Johnny Rockets for lunch which I haven't been to in a very long time. It sent me back to the memories of good old Ky on the river and the wonderful Newport on the Levee. I enjoyed going to the Johnny Rockets with friends when I was stretching my wings of independence. Love the vintage feel of those restaurants. They have the most delicious food too.
It was hard getting a good shot of the Hollywood sign because they blocked off the roads, but we managed to figure out a way to still get a good shot. Some of my favorite pictures of me, Jason, and our friends. :) Now I can say that I've seen the Hollywood sign. :P
At some point in our weekend we played a rousing game of Monopoly. One of my favorite games. I did not snap a shot which I now regret, but I also did not win. Might have been able to if we played a second game. That's usually how games go with me. ;)

On Sunday we visited their Lutheran church they pastor, visiting with acquaintances we've met from our last stay. Afterwards I had a yummy homemade pot pie with a golden crust that was to die for at Marie Calendar's. Did you know she had her own restaurant? I didn't when I first heard of it! Wish I could have finished it all, but it was huge and filling. Carb overload...
They surprised me with a gift for my birthday that I was not expecting! It is the neatest gift I have ever received from friends and was so thoughtful! It's a geeky lady's dream! They said it was for my The Lady Gadget business and I sure have gotten some great use out of it on house calls already. (Unfortunately now though it has broken. Makes me super sad!)

Overall we had a good trip and I hope to see more of Cali soon. :)

  1. I would have thought that you would have considered cancelling due to fear of heavy traffic even on weekends.

    1. Haha I do not like heavy traffic, but I got used to it when we lived near DC!
